Sternoclavicular joint

This is a saddle type if synovial joint. It has poor congruence
Intra-articular disc ligament
Divides SC joint into two separate joint spaces
Costoclavicular ligament (rhomboid ligament), Short and strong

Injury to this joint is extremely rare
The medial end of the clavicle is displaced forwards or rarely backwards.
Diagnosis is easier clinicall than radiologically because it is difficult to visualise this joint on Xray

Treatment

Reduction using direct pressure over the dislocated end.
Reduction is maintained by a figure of 8 bandage.
Recurrence is common, but it causes no disability
